[...] My friend Jamie has just done an amazing post for current developers who don’t work in web related fields looking to get into web development. I would probably recommend n00bs looking to get in to web development full stop to have a read of it too. So go check it out! [...]

Top post Jamie,

I'm changing career into web design/development and it's posts like this one and the linked post by RickNunn that are really helpful to me as they give you some sence of direction.

Keep it up!

"In my experience the statement about specialization comes into play more within larger organisations. Small to medium enterprises tend to look for generic web developers..." --- You're right, and you should add your view to the Wikipedia article. I wrote much of the 'Web Developer' article on Wikipedia (a while back, much has been edited, but much of what I came up with is still there), but I am probably biased because I work for a huge company where there is lots of specialization.

I've recently added FirePHP (http://www.firephp.org/) to the list of Firefox plugins... and I can't look back. It's aimed mainly at PHP, but there are a bunch of libraries for use with other languages.

@Rick: Sure i can do handcoding in a text-editor but cssedit saves me lots of time by letting me select a part of the site which i am working on and see what styles are applied and then jump to them instantly. Quite handy if you got a few thousand of lines! I also like the very good live preview when editing the stylesheets.
